Press Release Body = AA rosette restaurant The Maynard in Grindleford is offering diners a completely different panoramic view from the restaurant from next week. Before the trees were so mature outside the front of The Maynard, a wonderful view could be seen across the valley towards Hathersage. That view is now being recreated in glorious technicolour, by local artist Georgina Watkinson of Giant Minds.
Gina has referred to a recent aerial photograph taken from above The Maynard looking towards Hathersage, and is in the process of painting a mural on The Maynard's restaurant wall that reflects the view.
The Maynard director, Paul Downing, said: "I love art and we have local art all around the place at The Maynard. We have been struggling to decide what to do with one wall in our restaurant, which was probably a bit dark and needed a bit of a lift. I suddenly realised that there used to be a great view from that side of The Maynard, before the trees grew so tall, and the idea was born. I already knew about Georgina's talents and called her in to see if she would be interested in painting a mural of the view towards Hathersage. It's not quite finished, but already the mural is stunning and has surpassed even my own expectations. It should be completed within the next week or so and then diners will be able to enjoy the panoramic view towards Hathersage for the fist time in years."
The Maynard is well known for its amazing views; notably the view across its lawn and gardens from the restaurant down the Hope Valley towards Bakewell is famous for miles around, and the location of choice for many a wedding photograph.
